I feel ambivalent about saying "I first started taking photos with my grandmother's Kodak Brownie camera as a young boy and I've been hooked ever since." Ambivalent because it is so cliche but also so true, and those other 40 something photography nuts who also started on Brownies can really relate.
I should have known I would never shake the photography bug when as a pre-med at Cornell I found myself taking as much photography as the art majors and then being jealous of them because they got to go on to art school while I had to go to med school. After a long hiatus, having acquired a bit more free time, and taking full advantage of the digital photography revolution, I'm back to photography and loving it.
I have many mentors to thank for helping me become the digital photography guru that I am today. I've studied with several of the most preeminent digital photographers and educators of our time--people like John Paul Caponigro, Katherine Eisman, Bruce Fracier, Scott Kelby, Seth Resnick, Michael Richeman, Andrew Rodney and Jeff Schwee.
Of course none of them have the slightest clue who I am--I've never met them--maybe I've seen a few of them at a workshop here or there--but nevertheless, I've learned from them. I've read their books cover to cover, I've frequented their websites, downloaded their Photoshop actions, used their custom profiles and Photoshop plug-ins and watched their video tutorials. So, while in part I'm being tongue in cheek when I say that I can claim these icons as my mentors I really do feel that it's true and I'm grateful to all of them for the incredible work they've done to advance the art of digital photography and to make their knowledge and experience available to the likes of me. (Coming soon will be a list of books and resources from these folks that I've so helpful)
Am I rambling? Have I lost all of you yet? For the few who are still reading, just get to the rest of the site already. You must be the type who stays til the very end of the credits at movies. Just kidding. Welcome to my world. E-mail me, let's talk about photography.
